Bourbon and Beer unite in this Drink of the Week!

Let’s continue with our NC Beer Month Cocktail Series, shall we? We have one delicious beer-infused concoction for this Drink of the Week: Black-beery Smash. This recipe comes to us from Serena Wolf and the Cocktails and Confessions kitchen, and it has a funny story behind it which you can check out in the video below. The Black-beery Smash combines Whiskey and Wheat Beer, with fresh muddled mint and blackberries for one boozey doozey.

Sticking to our NC Beer selection, we paired an ice cold Weeping Willow Wit from Mother Earth Brewing with our favorite Jameson Irish Whiskey. We also substituted a wooden spoon for a muddler, as we didn’t have one on hand. We really enjoyed the sweetness the blackberries added to the Black-Beery Smash, and might experiment with how well it would work with strawberries, as they are in season here in Coastal NC. Grab yourself a glass, and mix up a Black-Beery Smash!

 

Black-beery Smash

Yields: 1 Serving
Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • 2 Ounces Wheat Beer
  • 2 Ounces Whiskey
  • 2 teaspoons Raw Sugar
  • Juice of ½ a Lemon
  • ¼ Cup Fresh Blackberries
  • Sprig of Fresh Mint
  • Blackberries for Garnish
Glassware and Items You’ll Need:

  • Highball Glass
  • Muddler or Wooden Spoon
  • Bottle Opener

Preparation

Muddle fresh blackberries, lemon juice, mint leaves and sugar together at the bottom of a highball glass. Add ice to glass (use crushed ice if you are feeling fancy). Next pour in the whiskey and stir. Top mixture with wheat beer, and garnish with a few blackberries. Enjoy!
