Drink of the Week: Bourbon Arnold Palmer

National Iced Tea Month just got Drink of the Week-ified!

We are celebrating National Iced Tea Month with a collection of Drinks of the Week that are specially brewed with tea and spirits. We’ll be featuring a new iced tea cocktail each week during the month of June. Our Iced Tea Cocktails are sure to brighten your summer and dazzle your tastebuds.

In the Western World, black tea is typically what you will find brewed for Iced Tea. Folks will argue it’s a sin to cold brew black tea, as you lose some of its attributes. White and Green teas are better suited for Iced Tea. But for now, there’s not a real reason to be too picky about it, unless you are a hardcore tea aficionado.

This Bourbon Arnold Palmer is a delicious combination of Earl Grey Tea, Fresh Lemonade, and Bourbon. A traditional Arnold Palmer is made with Black Tea, so we used an Earl Grey tea, like Teavana’s Earl Grey Creme Black Tea. Once again, we opted for fresh lemonade for this recipe, because 1) Nothing is as good as freshly made and 2) All that extra sugar is really bad for you. An Arnold Palmer is supposed to be a little sweet and a little tart, so I do not recommend using sweet tea for the Bourbon Arnold Palmer. Sweet Tea ruins it a bit, so let the simple syrup do sweetening the work for you.

When it comes to American Whiskey, I personally have an internal war between Kentucky Bourbon and Tennesse Whiskey. Jim Beam Black® is pretty good, but I have an unholy love affair with Jack Daniel’s® Green Label Whiskey, especially in a Hot Toddy. So for this recipe, I picked the Jim Bean but you can substitute any Bourbon you like.

Grab your shades and sit down for a cold refreshing Drink of the Week. It’s summer out there!
