Ultimate Negroni

Who knew bitterness can be good?

This is the only Negroni recipe Gin lovers will ever need.

Brio drink of the week: The Ultimate Negroni

The Negroni is one of those classic cocktails that helped put bitter-sweet cocktails on the map. While usually made with equal parts of gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth, this Ultimate recipe for the Negroni from David Wondrich at Esquire is a gin lovers’ dream.

So a while back, a study came out that said if you like gin or other bitter things you might be a psychopath. I know many a gin lover who might say otherwise, but is that really a bad thing? If you like bitter cocktails, you have a wide range of drinks to explore and won’t have to worry about your friends drinking your hooch. I might enjoy a Tom Collins every so often, but it doesn’t quite compare to this Negroni recipe.

I will preface this one with, I’m not a huge fan of bitter cocktails. I sip on them for a long time and find them hard to finish. A sour taste is just fine, but bitter makes me cringe. But this Negroni recipe was smoother sipping material. I think the sweet Vermouth had something to do with it. My gin loving friends could not stop raving about this recipe when I mixed them up for them the other night.

Now let’s show you how you make Wondrich’s Ultimate Negroni!

Yields: 1 Serving

Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • 1½ Ounces London Dry Gin
  • ¾ Ounce Campari
  • ¾ Ounce Italian Sweet Vermouth
