This Espresso Martini Nightcap will knock your socks off

The Perfect Espresso Martini [Affogato] Nightcap

It’s Our Favorite Nightcap

This Espresso Martini is a simply delicious nightcap that is perfect for coffee lovers everywhere. Add a few tablespoons of Vanilla Gelato to the glass and make it Affogato!

The Perfect Espresso Martini [Affogato] Nightcap

Coffee is one of those bases that makes great cocktails from Black Russians to Irish Coffees. And when it comes to coffee, there’s nothing I love more than espresso. So when we came across these Espresso Martinis, my heart sang with the joy of a thousand tenors.

I don’t always have a nightcap, but when I do this cocktail is at the top of my list. This Espresso Martini is one of those perfectly caffeinated cocktails, that blends the taste of coffee liqueur, vodka, and freshly brewed espresso.

I save the good stuff [the bottles from my splurge list] for my favorite cocktails. For my perfect Espresso Martini recipe, I used Van Gogh Vodka and Patrón XO Café Dark Cocoa [it’s a chocolate coffee liqueur made with tequila instead of rum like Kahlua].

One of my favorite treats is Affogato, chocolate or vanilla gelato [you can do it with ice cream too] topped with freshly brewed espresso. So I Frankensteined them together and made an Espresso Martini Affogato. I just had to, and it was delicious! To make this nightcap affogato, add one to two large spoonfuls of gelato to the bottom of your glass and pour the espresso martini over top.

Here’s the recipe to our killer Espresso Martini [Affogato]!

Drink of the week: Pumpkin Martini

Halloween Party Ready Pumpkin Martini

Jack O’Lanterns, beware!

Looking for a pumpkin themed cocktail to serve for a Halloween party? This Pumpkin Martini will make your cauldron bubble.

Halloween Party Ready Pumpkin Martini Recipe

Someone better go tell Charlie Brown. In the affray of Pumpkin Pie and Pumpkin Spiced flavored everything, this martini is the Great Pumpkin we’ve been looking for. Our list of fall cocktail creations includes all kinds of Pumpkin Flavored drinks, but this cocktail is pure and simple deliciousness.

Halloween is one of my favorite times of year. Temperatures begin to cool, there are decorations everywhere, and it becomes socially acceptable to wear black all month without questions. Yes, Halloween is a grand time for haunted houses and parties with friends. My family throws a large Halloween party for friends, family, and neighbors every year. It has become a kind of tradition. So has crafting goolish cocktails and goodies for our guests. Oddly enough, though, we haven’t gotten around to a pumpkin-flavored cocktail until now.

Using pumpkin pie filling and a spiced simple syrup, like Eli Mason Spiced Simple Syrup, makes this the ultimate fall flavored cocktail. We also used straight vodka and added in vanilla instead of using flavored vodka, but feel free to cut corners and use a good vanilla vodka if you like. These flavors really mingle well together in a chilled glass.

This cocktail is served neat in a sugar rimmed cocktail glass [cause there’s no such thing as a “martini glass”]. It makes it even more festive to use colored sugar for Halloween. We suggest using the classic Halloween colors: Black, orange, and green for your sugar rims.

Now let’s show you how you make a Pumpkin Martini!

You'll want to pucker up for this Amaretto Cranberry Kiss

Amaretto-Cranberry Kiss

It’s time to upgrade from a simple Vodka Cranberry

The Cranberry Kiss melds the sweetness of Amaretto with the tangy bite of cranberry juice and the smoothness of vodka.

Brio Smart Life Drink of the week: Amaretto-Cranberry Kiss

Also referred to as the Amaretto-Cranberry Kiss, this Drink of the Week recipe was adapted from Meredith Deeds & Carla Snyder’s 8 servings recipe at Bon Appetit. This fall cocktail found a way to mellow out the sweetness of Amaretto with the tangy bite of cranberry and citrus juices and the smooth feel of vodka.

Like most young folks who don’t know any better, my first cocktail at a bar was a Vodka Cranberry. I figured it’s tart and sweet, why not! Of course, my cocktail palate has grown from there, but I still sometimes find myself finding ways to mix vodka and cranberry juice together in a cocktail. One of those ways was a Valentine’s Day cocktail I dubbed the Sweet Loven’ Martini. The Cranberry Kiss is the next upgrade from the simple Vodka Cranberry.

Now if you don’t like sweet cocktails – sorry mate – this one ain’t for you. While it’s not extra sweet, some folks like me find Amaretto very sweet. That’s why you need something with a tang, like cranberry juice, to cut down on the sweet factor. Using freshly squeezed orange juice can also help cut down the sweetness by not introducing any added sugar to your cocktail. That added sugar is what can also cause a nasty hangover if you aren’t too careful.

[You might want to try one of these treats to offset that hangover if you are going to be drinking a lot of fruity sugary drinks.]

You all know by now, as long as it isn’t Aristocrat, I’m not that picky with my choice of Vodka. I save my snobbery for Whiskey, like a lady. We recently stocked up the liquor cabinet for Hurricane Matthew, that’s headed our way this weekend. Riding out a Cat 2 storm just isn’t the same if you don’t have a Hurricane Party. So I picked up a bottle of Svedka. Svedka is one of those great value brand vodkas that won’t break the bank. They also specialize in fruit-flavored vodkas, so keep that in mind for the future. Hint-Hint. Nudge-Nudge.

Now let’s show you how you make a Cranberry Kiss!

Cranberry Kiss

Yields: 1 Serving

Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • 1¹⁄³ Ounces Vodka
  • 2²⁄³ Ounces Cranberry Juice
  • 2/3 Ounce Amaretto
  • 2/3 Ounce Orange Juice
  • Lemon Twist for Garnish

Glassware and Items You’ll Need:

  • Cocktail Glass
  • Cocktail Shaker

Preparation

Cranberry Kiss: Pour all the ingredients into an ice filled cocktail shaker. Shake for about 20 seconds, or until the drink is properly chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a lemon twist. Enjoy!
