Whiskey Ginger-Honey Iced Tea

So long ginger ale, whiskey has a new best friend.

We are continuing to grow our collection of Boozy Iced Tea Drink of the Week cocktails for National Iced Tea Month. This week, we’re putting an iced tea spin on the classic Whiskey Ginger. Your obsession with whiskey and tea just got upgraded with this Whiskey Ginger-Honey Iced Tea.

Drink of the Week: Whiskey Ginger-Honey Iced Tea

About a month ago, someone had given me a bottle of Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey Whiskey to try out. I like Whiskey Gingers, so I decided to try it in place of my go-to bottle of Irish Whiskey. Needless to say, I did not care for the combination of the honey whiskey and ginger ale. It wasn’t that it tasted too sweet, I like sweet things to an extent, but it was the carbonation that got to me really.

Determined to find a way to drink it, I ventured into my tea cabinet. One night, I got the idea to add the Tennessee Honey into a hot toddy that I made with ginger tea. I thought it paired very well with the spicy essence of ginger in the tea.

Ginger tea is a natural digestive aid, and many folks drink ginger tea with honey and lemon as a weight loss supplement. There are many benefits to eating ginger root and drinking ginger tea, including relieving gas and heartburn. Something you might deal with a lot this summer after attending a few backyard cookouts or block parties. Ginger also is used in many cold remedies, as it helps to boost the immune system. Which is why it is one of my favorite teas to drink during allergy season.

So I decided to try making a Whiskey Ginger again, but instead of ginger ale, I made it with freshly brewed ginger tea and lemon juice over ice. This combination was far more appetizing, and after a few tweaks to the recipe, the Whiskey Ginger-Honey Iced Tea Toddy was born! I did think about naming this the Whiskey Sweet, a play off the Whiskey Sour, but Nah.

This Iced Toddy is great for soothing sore throats after a late night of summer concerts and is a delicious little energy booster. As a drink of the week cocktail, this Whiskey Ginger-Honey Iced Tea is different that our other iced tea cocktails as it can be enjoyed both hot or iced. I plan to enjoy it iced this summer, and hopefully, you’ll raise your Drink of the Week glasses with me to National Iced Tea Month with a cold Whiskey Ginger-Honey Iced Tea. Cheers!

Whiskey Ginger-Honey Iced Tea

Yields: 1 to 2 Servings

Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • 2 Ounces Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey Whiskey
  • 6 Ounces Ginger Tea
  • 1 Ounces Fresh Lemon Juice
  • Simple Syrup To Taste****
  • Lemon Slices for Garnish

Glassware and Items You’ll Need:

  • Old-Fashioned Glass
  • Bar Spoon

 

Preparation

Ginger Tea: Fill a kettle with 6 Ounces of water and bring it to a boil. Take kettle off the heat and pour water into a pitcher with about 1 to 2 tea bags, or the equivalent of loose tea in a tea strainer. Steep tea until the water cools down. Remove the tea bags, or strainer, and pour into glasses over ice. Chill tea in the Fridge for at least 30 minutes.

 

Whiskey Ginger-Honey Iced Tea: Remove glasses from fridge, and add Tennessee Honey and Lemon juice to chilled ginger tea. ****Take a sip, if it is not sweet enough for you add in some simple syrup gradually by teaspoons until desired sweetness. Stir together, and add more ice to glass as desired. Garnish with lemon slices, squeeze them for extra lemon flavor. Enjoy!
